Community Enhancement 2015: YMCA Camp Terry Renovation [Recap]
Thank you, thank you, thank you! More than 400 volunteers gathered at YMCA Camp Terry on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, to conduct long overdue repairs and maintenance at the camp which annually provides hundreds of Pacific Northwest children from all walks of life with unique outdoor education experiences.
We enhanced the camp entrance with new drought-tolerant plantings, removed invasive species, repaired a fence, entry sign, gate, trash enclosure, utilized downed trees by cutting them into rounds and creating a new vehicle barrier, and re-graveled the entire parking lot. A dead cedar tree that was an eyesore and safety hazard was turned into a beautiful, lasting piece of art as a gift to the YMCA. The volunteer efforts created a beautiful and welcoming front entrance for the Camp.

Community Enhancement co-chair Kristen Glandon writes: "Two AHBL co-workers who had never been to a CE event before tell me they can’t wait to come again next year. And one of our Civil Engineering project managers wrote, 'Today was really great! You guys organized a super cool event that seemed to go off really smoothly.'"
Other projects included:
- Repair of the decks around the existing yurts
- Invasive species removal from much of the camp, which is very important due to the location adjacent to the salmon-bearing Raging River
- Placement of new gravel on pathways
- Addition of a foot bridge over the drainage ditch to connect the two camp parcels, which ends the need for kids to walk onto the road
- Repairs to the amphitheater at campfire area that improved seating capacity
- Painting of many of the camp structures
More than 400 volunteers helped renovate Camp Terry in our 25th anniversary event on Oct. 3, 2015.
