NAIOP WA Announces New App Featuring CRE’s Industry Best with 2017 Night of the Stars Finalists & Hall of Fame Inductee Douglas Howe

New for 2017: People’s Choice Award with Daily Voting Online | Douglas Howe to be honored as 2017 Hall of Fame inductee in recognition of his contributions to the built environment of Seattle and the Puget Sound and to NAIOP

SEATTLE – Announced today, category finalists and one winner in NAIOP Washington State’s 2017 Night of the Stars Awards again showcase the cream of the crop in a city again topping national crane counts.

NAIOP’s Night of the Stars identifies outstanding real estate developments and activities in a variety of market types and the individuals who conceived of, took risks, sponsored, supported and made the projects happen. The awards aim to honor entire teams, including all who contributed to the project’s success in this annual celebration of the industry.

Nominations include dozens of well-known commercial real estate players, breakthrough deals and important development projects. Each project was evaluated for impact on the community, market adaptability, ingenuity and local contributions. Winners will be announced at the November 3 gala event at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue.

Each of the nominations is viewable via the new NAIOP WA app, which is designed to transform how the Northwest commercial real estate community networks. The app includes comprehensive Night of the Stars details, as well as a robust event calendar with quick registration, attendee lists and ability to contact speakers and provide event feedback. Members have access to a state-of-the-art member directory with messaging features, as well as features designed to increase engagement among membership and volunteer committees.

In addition to nominated projects, each year, an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the industry is selected for induction into the NAIOP Washington State Hall of Fame. This year, Douglas Howe joins the ranks of the vaunted for his contributions not to Seattle and the Northwest’s built environment, as well as to the NAIOP organization. As founder and Chief Executive Officer of Touchstone, Douglas built a reputation developing commercial office, biotechnology R & D, retail and hotel properties that make a positive impact on the built environment -- whether restoring historical landmark structures or constructing award winning, architecturally distinctive new buildings. Currently, Douglas is Governor of the NAIOP Research Foundation; he served as Chairman of NAIOP in 2009 and as President of NAIOP Washington State in 2004.

This year, the commercial real estate community will choose to elevate and celebrate one project that represents best-in-class development in Puget Sound in the brand-new People’s Choice Award. NAIOP WA supporters may vote for one project per day from September 20 through October 13. All other projects are eligible for the People's Choice Award; Developer of the Year and Deal of the Year are excluded.

About Douglas Howe

Douglas Howe headshot

A Tacoma native of a fifth-generation Washington pioneer lumber family, Douglas Howe has enjoyed a 40-year career as a commercial real estate developer. As founder and Chief Executive Officer of Touchstone, Douglas built a reputation developing commercial office, biotechnology R&D, retail and hotel properties that make a positive impact on the built environment -- whether restoring historical landmark structures or constructing award winning, architecturally distinctive new buildings.

As a front-runner in the development of biomedical/biotechnology buildings and having built relationships with leaders in the industry, Douglas believes that Seattle is already a center for innovation and research in global health, biotechnology, and health and wellness, a factor that will lead to the next wave of local economic expansion.

Douglas continues to be an active private investor and developer, managing opportunities through his family partnership. He enjoys mentoring young real estate professionals as a member of the Board of the Runstad Center at the University of Washington, as well as through NAIOP, speaking engagements and career development programs.

Douglas is Governor of the NAIOP Research Foundation, served as Chairman of NAIOP in 2009 and as President of NAIOP Washington State in 2004. He also serves on the boards of the Institute for Systems Biology and the Children’s Hospital Research Institute.

Douglas holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Puget Sound and an undergraduate degree from the University of Washington. He is married to Robin DuBrin and has two children, Brian and Julianne. He is an avid snow skier, world traveler, and wine and art glass collector.
