Community Enhancement 2015: How We Chose YMCA Camp Terry

Each year, YMCA Camp Terry welcomes hundreds of kids and young adults to participate in educational and experiential outdoor activities at their facility along the Raging River in Preston. The camp has been in need of upgrades to their facilities and has been in the planning stages for several years.

Based on their mission, the population they serve, the size of the facility, and the variety of improvements they have been planning, Camp Terry has been a prime candidate to be a NAIOP Community Enhancement (CE) project site for the past couple of years. Each time the Community Enhancement Committee (CEC) had visited the camp in the past, we saw how we could easily partner with the YMCA for a successful project, but each year the camp was not quite ready.

When we returned in early 2015, the Camp Terry team was ready for us. They showed the evolution of their vision and the planning for the improvements at the facility, and quickly became the prime candidate for our 2015 project. After discussions with our scouting and planning teams, concurrence from the CEC and the NAIOP board, YMCA Camp Terry was selected as our 2015 CE project site. The CEC is engaged with the Camp Terry team and are planning for another great CE project on October 3.

We are also excited that the youngest members of the NAIOP community can share in the fun this year by attending the day camp that the YMCA will be leading concurrent with the CE project. Day campers will get to be part of the fun on project day by participating in various activities such as outdoor environmental education, arts and crafts projects, and physical activities and challenges (games, climbing and bouldering wall, low ropes).

Please sign up now if possible, as we need a head count for project planning and day-camp attendance:
