2021 Community Enhancement - Auburn Valley YMCA

NAIOP Washington State would like to thank all the financial and in-kind sponsors who made 2021 Community Enhancement at Auburn Valley YMCA possible, as well as the Community Enhancement Committee members who supported this project for over the last two years.

It was an honor to partner with Auburn Valley YMCA to improve their outdoor spaces and support their work in our community. The YMCA is Seattle’s founding nonprofit organization, offering health, hope, and opportunity to:

  • Parents in search of a safe, nurturing environment for their children to stay active, be engaged, and learn positive values. Children and teens play and develop self-confidence while feeling accepted and supported.
  • Former foster kids and young people experiencing homelessness who receive assistance with housing, employment, life skills, and other resources to learn and work.
  • Families in crisis due to mental health, child abuse, neglect, or substance abuse who receive support and resources from licensed counselors. People from all backgrounds and walks of life come together to volunteer and help strengthen their community.
  • Adults looking to connect with friends, pursue interests, and learn how to live healthier.

On Saturday, October 2, over 200 NAIOPWA volunteers descended on the Auburn Valley YMCA to transform an abandoned parking lot into an outdoor play area for kids.

Constructing the new outdoor playground involved grinding the existing asphalt pavement and recycling the asphalt grindings to create new pathways, serve as the base for the new outdoor amphitheater, and refurbish the jogging trail at the soccer and baseball fields.

NAIOPWA volunteers also installed a new split rail fence at the playground and borders around the climbing walls, constructed a new outdoor amphitheater with bench seating, built 20 new picnic tables, provided landscaping and tree pruning, and placed play chips and bark in the playground areas.

Due to COVID, the YMCA has waited two years for their playground to take shape, and they were very pleased with all the work we completed. They can’t wait to welcome families to enjoy their new outdoor amenities.

Additionally, NAIOPWA donated 125 meals from Longhorn Barbeque to a local shelter serving teens experiencing homelessness.

Our annual Community Enhancement projects would not be possible without the support of our sponsors. Click here for more information on sponsoring.

Thank you to Tim Rice Architectural Photography for photographing this event.
