2022 NAIOPWA Night of the Stars Finalists & First Winners Announced
John Pietromonaco to be inducted to NAIOPWA Hall of Fame | Annual People’s Choice Award with Daily Voting Runs Sept 21 – Oct 5
SEATTLE – Announced at NAIOP Washington State’s September Breakfast, the slate of competitors for the association’s annual Night of the Stars Awards once again showcases the best commercial real estate development projects across the state completed in the past year. With the announcement, People's Choice voting begins online and runs through Weds., Oct. 5. Also announced was NAIOPWA's 2022 Hall of Fame inductee, John Pietromonaco, who joins the ranks of leaders honored for their essential contributions to the built environment of the Puget Sound region and to the CRE community through their involvement in NAIOPWA and beyond.

The projects, and the developers who engaged them, demonstrate the flexibility and ingenuity of the CRE community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, NAIOPWA’s 2022 Night of the Stars finalists highlight the growth in transit-oriented development (TOD), multi-family housing from high-rise urban to supportive housing, and various programs that encourage development in underutilized regions such as Opportunity Zone funding.
The first two winners of 2022 speak to the overall trend toward housing and community seen among the 59 finalists:
Community Impact Development of the Year: Seattle Indian Health Board ʔálʔal Clinic at Chief Seattle Club supports the recently opened ʔálʔal (the Lushootseed word for “home”) affordable housing building, where individuals experiencing homelessness receive services including western-style medical, dental and behavioral health treatment, as well as traditional indigenous medicine options.
Sustainable Development of the Year: Ellie Passivhaus is Seattle’s third and largest Passivhaus, adding significantly not only to the area’s housing stock but also leading the way forward in environmentally friendly living, surpassing LEED standards, reducing energy consumption by nearly two-thirds and surpassing the city’s Priority Green requirements by 39 percent.
In addition to nominated projects, each year, an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the industry is selected for induction into the NAIOP Washington State Hall of Fame. This year, John Pietromonaco joins the ranks of the vaunted for his contributions to the built environment of the Pacific Northwest, as well as to NAIOPWA and the commercial real estate community. John started his real estate development career in 1978; in 1988, he teamed up with fellow Hall of Fame recipient Harold Hill to start Hill-Raaum-Pietromonaco, which grew from 900,000 to 5,500,000 square feet over the next 29 years. In late 2016, the company divided, and Pietromonaco Jackson Properties was formed; today, the firm owns more than 2,000,000 square feet of buildings. John has served on the Government Affairs Committee for more than 30 years and on the Community Enhancement Committee for more than 20 years; he served as chapter president in 1999, when Seattle last hosted NAIOP’s national convention.
View all finalists in the Night of the Stars finalists’ gallery, and don’t forget to vote for the 2022 People’s Choice Award! Individuals may vote once per day for the project they believe represents best-in-class development starting today and through Wednesday, Oct. 5.
Winners will be announced at NAIOPWA’s annual Night of the Stars Gala on Friday, Nov. 4, hosted at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue. Learn more about Night of the Stars 2022.
